Although the evidence of depression can be all too tangible in your life, depression isn’t real. If you think that you’re suffering from depression, you’re only imagining it because depression is directly linked to your subconscious mind’s obsession with useless thoughts that you took on board during your childhood years. It is normal for your subconscious mind to dwell on the past – everyone’s does – it’s simply that the garbage that yours is paying attention to is evidently a little (or a lot) abnormal. This is not your fault – your subconscious mind was conditioned with these thoughts by others, people and events that made you feel worthless, guilty, upset during those childhood years.
And although it’s normal for your subconscious to focus on out-dated deeply-rooted thoughts, this obsession doing you damage – you can see it and feel it in your daily life. Again, you shouldn’t feel bad about this – everybody’s subconscious mind is doing them damage – at least you have the advantage over other normal people in realizing that you have a problem.
However, the problem is completely down to what your subconscious mind is thinking about. What you have to do is drag your mind away from those self-destructive thoughts and redirect your attention to the only place and time that is actually real, the only place and time that you can really live – the here and now. If you manage to turn your attention to the here and now you’ll experience something that you may not have experienced before – there’s no such thing as depression, there’s no such thing as fear or worry, there’s simply this world full of possibilities and opportunities – and quantum physics confirms that that wonderful world is simply waiting to respond to your hopes and dreams.
Medication or pills will not enable you experience the difference between reality and the fiction of stress – they may well make the pain go away for a while but your subconscious mind will always slither back to those thoughts that are not real but just an imprint of your own ancient history. The only way that you will experience reality – one devoid of depression – is to learn how to clear your mind. No hassle! Because, as a youngster, you had a totally clear mind – that’s how those bad feelings were impressed upon you way back then. All you’ve got to do now is re-train yourself to pay attention to what your five senses are telling you, right here, right now – without adding your subconscious mind’s warped interpretation onto the facts.
I believe that the best way to relearn how to focus your mind on to the reality of the present moment is meditation – preferably, for starters, guided meditation. It may take you a while to get used to it, you may find it difficult, but a little commitment will bring about the incredible benefit of your being able to live your life to the full.

The first thing you can do is to remind yourself that depressive feelings usually do not last for long. They go away even if you don’t do anything about them. Remind yourself constantly that this condition is not permanent. You are soon going to get over this and feel joyful again. In this way you can get over your fear of depression soon.
You will now feel assured that you can handle and see off this phase of life. You will be hopeful that things will soon be back to normal. Another trick is to divert your mind. Your mind cannot fully concentrate on 2 different things at the same time. When it is absorbed in one thing, it will forget another one.
So, one of the best ways to beat depression is to get busy with something constructive and useful. Start enjoying your work, and work more passionately. Do something which is beneficial not just to yourself but to others as well. You might even volunteer for any work which serves the society.
