Even though board games may seem old school they are a good way to spend time with family and friends or even provide a little amusement at parties. Not everybody likes games, but there are several different types so hopefully you can agree on playing one. These are the five top games according to me, but they are really popular.
1. Ticket to Ride
Ticket to Ride has won the “German Game of the Year in 2004″ and was ranked the “Best Family Game 2004.” Ticket to Ride is a cross-country railroad game obtainable in several different versions including Europe, Germany, Switzerland, and the U.S. In this game players are given train routes and they must complete those routes if they don’t want to lose points. The game is straightforward easy to figure out and play but it does involve some strategy and luck.
2. Settlers of Cataan
An additional “German Game of the Year 1995″ and “1st Place – Deutscher Spiele Preis 1995.” In this game settlers must become the prevailing group on the isolated island by constructing settlements and cities throughout the wilderness. Trading and building are the way to prevail this game but you have to combine luck and strategy in order to become the settler with the greatest assets and ultimately the champion of the game.
3. Small World
Identified as a light-hearted civilization board game this game won the “GAMES Magazine Game of the Year 2010″ and “2009 International Gamers Award Winner.” In this game the objective is to control the earth. In it players use characters which include dwarves, wizards, amazons, giants, orcs, and even humans. The groups must use their troops to not only occupy territory but also take control of adjacent lands in order to force other races from the world. It requires strategy, knowledge, resourcefulness, and interaction plus its pretty complex.
4. Pandemic
As one of the best cooperative games out there Pandemic has won the “GAMES Magazine Best Family Game 2008.” Four diseases have broken out across the globe and it’s the player’s responsibility to work together in order to restrain the disease and save the earth. By using individual characters strengths and planning their strategy of eradication before the disease overtakes the earth. All the players either win or lose depending on if they can control the outbreak before time runs out.
5. Lost Cities
This game also collected “German Game of the Year 2008)”, and “Games Magazine 1st Runner-Up Family Game 2010.” Each player has a five member band including a researcher and four explorers that must look for the lost cities. To get to the cities, a player must place down a colored card of low value in order to make the nine steps into the city. Because if he wants to continue locating the city he has to place a card of equal or higher value in order to move his game piece.
There are many excellent games that offer some entertainment for yourself along with family and friends. These are the five best games to purchase and play. These games vary and everyone is sure to get pleasure from at least one of them. They are a cheap type of entertainment that can last for years to come. Although there are always new games coming out these are fun and extremely popular among gamers.

Most kids and teenagers are always locked in their room after school, either playing on their PS3, XBOX or WII. They are either on their computer games or the Internet or listening to music. I haven’t seen a teenager who spends few hours with his or her family after school. Either its the kids who go straight to their room after school, if not then the parents tell them to go do their homework and then when they go up they never come down till the dinner is ready. From this kids get used to their computer games, their friends and their online activities. They tend to spend less time with their family. This can be a negative factor in the relationship between the family and the kids.
I did a questionnaire research in my school few months ago asking kids on what they would like to do on their holidays. Shockingly they admitted they would love to go on cruises with their parents other than doing the same thing over and over again which is visit their relatives. Hey don’t blame me, it was the kids who said it. Then I asked them where they would like to go? Many answered that they would like to go on royal Caribbean cruises and few replied Holland American line cruises. It is amazing isn’t it, I bet you never thought your kid will come up with that answer. I have certainly realized that kids nowadays are far more intelligent than before.
So parents take your kids on a cruising holiday this summer. This way you can bring your family close together so don’t look at it as a holiday. Spending fun times together is a great way of family bonding. Normally these trips also help you learn a lot about each other which is why it’s great for families.
