Why You Should Consider One Day Insurance If You’re Test Driving A Car

When you come across a car, van or bike you want to buy, be it in adverts, a magazine, online or on a dealers’ forecourt, it can be very tempting to buy it there and then.
It would be fairly common sense on the other hand to test drive the vehicle first, meaning you can make an informed decision on it, rather than making a purchase on impulse.
While a lot of larger dealers will be able to offer you a test drive, many of the smaller ones don’t offer such an option. Similarly, you probably won’t want to add the vehicle to your own policy, as this will risk any no claims bonus you have and will cost you a fair amount of money. If the car you wanted to buy was being sold privately, you simply won’t be insured to test drive it.

This is where temporary car insurance can come in very useful, allowing you to cover yourself on the vehicle before you’ve purchased it. This will mean you can drive the car safe in the knowledge that you’re covered should you have an accident. Generally, you’ll only be needing 1 day insurance to cover yourself for the day you want to test drive it, meaning you’re OK to drive the vehicle. Alternatively, you could take out insurance for a slightly longer period of time, meaning you can give yourself room to organise annual cover in the event that you purchase the vehicle.

Should you decide to test drive a car without proper insurance, you’re risking a lot more than just potentially having to pay for any damage done to the vehicle while it’s in your possession. If you were to get caught driving the vehicle uninsured, you could get six points on your license, a £200 penalty and risk being disqualified from driving altogether.
Using short term car insurance will mean you’re protected and won’t have to worry about paying such a heavy penalty for driving without proper insurance.

Keeping Your Car Cool Without Air Conditioning

If you’re a vehicle owner, you’ve probably come across that horrible situation where you get into your car on a hot day and it feels like an oven. For those who own the low-end cars and don’t have air conditioners in the car, you’ll often have to just put up with it; rolling down the windows and just hoping it cools down.

But there’s no reason for you to simply put up with it. If you don’t have decent air conditioning (or you’re one of those who prefer to keep it off), there are a few simple things you can do to keep your car that little bit cooler this summer:

Combining a source of fresh air with the fans located in most cars can be particularly effective in the summer months. Probably the easiest way to do this would be to open the window or sunroof on your car. You don’t need to open it completely, as this won’t work as well. You’ll only need to open it about an inch, whack on the fans and you’ll soon feel the difference.

Another excellent idea is to not cool the car down, but try and prevent it from getting so hot in the first place. You could also get your windows tinted, which will stop the car heating up so much by preventing the sunlight from getting into the car. You’ll have to check on the law in the UK however, as there may be a limit as to how tinted your windows can be. Alternatively, you could use some form of card or material (basically anything that creates shade inside the car) against the window, to the same effect.

Another option open to you is to store ice in the car. This is particularly effective if the ice is kept next to the ventilation system, as it will circulate cool air and effectively act as a humidifier. This actually works extremely well and will not only leave your performance and fuel consumption alone (both are affected by using air conditionditiong), and basically turns your car into the speediest portable air conditioner on the roads.
